Florida ACA Plans

Affordable Care Act (ACA) Plans in Florida

The Affordable Care Act, often called “Obamacare,” is the primary way people under 65 can get health coverage if they don’t have insurance through an employer. These Marketplace plans include essential health benefits such as:

  • Doctor visits and hospital care

  • Prescription drugs

  • Maternity and newborn care

  • Preventive services

  • Mental health services

They also cover pre-existing conditions, and many Floridians qualify for financial help to lower their monthly premiums. Enrollment in Florida is done through the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov, and we handle the process for you—at no cost to you.

ACA Enrollment

Open Enrollment & Special Enrollment

You can sign up for an ACA plan during Open Enrollment, which runs from November 1 to January 15 each year. If you want your coverage to start on January 1, you must apply by December 15.

Missed open enrollment? You may still qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you’ve had a life change such as:

  • Moving to a new state

  • Getting married or divorced

  • Having a baby or adopting a child

  • Losing employer-sponsored coverage

If you’re not sure whether you qualify, we can help you find out.

How Premium Subsidies Work

Most people who apply for individual health insurance in Winter Park qualify for subsidies that reduce their monthly premiums. The amount is based on your household income and family size.

Subsidies come in two forms:

01

Premium Tax Credits

Lower your monthly cost

02

Cost-Sharing Reductions

Reduce deductibles and copays (for lower-income households choosing a Silver plan)

We’ll calculate your subsidy eligibility and make sure you get every dollar you qualify for.

ACA Plan Levels

Plan Options: Bronze, Silver, Gold (and Platinum)

ACA plans are grouped into “metal” levels that reflect how costs are shared between you and the insurance company:

  • Bronze – Lowest premium, highest deductible

  • Silver – Moderate premium and cost-sharing (required for cost-sharing reductions)

  • Gold – Higher premium, lower deductible and copays

  • Platinum – Highest premium, lowest out-of-pocket costs (rare in Florida)

Most ACA plans in Florida are HMO or EPO networks, which means you’ll want to choose a plan that includes your preferred doctors and hospitals. We’ll help you find one that works for your healthcare needs and your budget.

Coverage for Self-Employed or Uninsured

We work with many self-employed professionals, gig workers, and contractors who need health coverage. If you’re self-employed, you may be able to deduct your premiums on your taxes—ask your tax advisor or see our Tax Preparation Services page for more details.

We also help:

  • Families with children – and can point you toward Florida KidCare/CHIP if your children qualify.

  • Early retirees (ages 60–64) – who need affordable coverage until they’re eligible for Medicare.

Extra Coverage

Beyond the Basics: Extra Coverages

ACA health plans cover a lot, but not everything. Most don’t include adult dental or vision—but we do offer Dental Insurance and Vision Insurance to round out your coverage.

If you’ve missed Open Enrollment and don’t qualify for Special Enrollment, a Short-Term Health Insurance plan may be an option to bridge the gap until the next enrollment period.
